Opening session of the Carmenes del Mar trial

After an at times unbelievable series of delays, the long-awaited Carmenes del Mar trial finally got under way on Friday, February 7th, in Granada's Court of First Instance. In the first of 8 sessions, the presidents of the urbanization that make up Carmenes del Mar described how, when the property owners bought their homes, they did not know that Almuñecar Town Hall had not officially accepted the urbanisation project, a step that has still not been taken 10 years later. "The houses had their Licences of First Occupation, we pay our IBI, the waste collection and electricity bills. We thought that the initial flaws were construction defects", says one of the affected owners.

Lawyers for the 8 accused have insisted that the urbanization suffered breakages and ruptured pipes, such as one in the mains water supply pipes, that the owners did not react to and repair in time and in the ...

"A nightmare house" on Spanish Television's Comando Actualidad on January 22nd

Tune in to TVE1 at 22:30 this coming Wednesday, January 22nd, to watch a special segment featuring Carmenes del Mar. Comando Actualidad is a Spanish TV program that airs every Wednesday, and each week covers a topical issue as seen through the eyes of four street reporters. This week in "A nightmare house", they visit  Ignacio and Mercedes, who continue to live in Carmenes del Mar, despite having been issued an eviction order due to the dangerous condition of their house, and Pierre, who came from Belgiium to enjoy retirement in La Herradura, and whose house has completely collapsed. More delays in Carmenes del Mar trial

The trial of the eight defendants in the case of Carmenes de Mar has been suspended yet again, this time due to the failure of the court video recording system. The opening session of the trial was due to take place yesterday, January 7th, in the Granada law courts, having been previously suspended last October. More than 50 witnesses, technical experts and defendants had been called to attend, as well as a dozen or so lawyers. Under existing court rules every court session must be recorded, but a fault in the recording system made that impossiible and the judge was obliged to cancel the session. Four calls were made to the Junta de Andalucia IT services personnel, in which the very high priority of the case was emphasised, but no reply, neither positive nor negative, was forthcoming.

Carmenes del Mar featured on Juan y Medio television show

The popular Spanish TV presenter Juan y Medio included a segment about Carmenes del Mar on his evening television program "La Tarde, Aquí Y Ahora" (This Evening, Here & Now). The programme, broadcast on November 27th, included a live report from Carmenes del Mar and an interview with spokesman Ignacio Martin, in which Ignacio spoke about the delaying tactics being employed by the defendants in the ongoing trial, and the failure of the Junta de Andalucia to communicate with the residents of the La Herradura urbanisations that make up Carmenes del Mar.

"Los Reporteros" on Canal Sur TV will broadcast documentary about Carmenes del Mar

Next Saturday, November 23rd Canal Sur television will show a documentary about Carmenes de Mar on the programme "Los Reporteros". The programme, entitled "La Casa se Cae" ("The House is Falling down") will air at 21:00. We invite everyone to join us to watch the programme in La Barrica, beside the Plaza Nueva in La Herradura village.
